1st Grade- Insect Paintings!

They are Back!  This is always one of my favorite projects to do with the first graders.  Each year the first grade classes start the year by studying insects- and I LOVE to carry this theme over into the Art Room.  I have each of the students study a specific insect very carefully and then make a line drawing of it.  Once they have done that they go over the line drawing in sharpie.  To fill in the insects the students are ONLY allowed to use the PRIMARY COLORS.  They outline each part of the insects body with one primary color, and fill it in with another.  Then they use their fingers to smudge the colors together and produce secondary colors.  The backgrounds are filled in with liquid water color.
