After learning about the life and work of Vincent Van Gogh the second grade artists painted sunflowers in his honor. They observed the way that Vincent used his brush and then tried to mimic that while making their own paintings. One student looked at me and said, “It feels like somebody else painted this painting, not me…” . I love to make them create art in ways that they don’t do on their own. I feel like teaching them how to simply move their paintbrush in a different way opens up a whole new world of art making for them!
