Each year the 5th graders write about themselves in English class. To go along with the writing that they do, each student also does a self portrait to be displayed alongside their writing for open house. This year we had just finished our Warhol Soup Can paintings- So I decided to stay in the vein of pop art and have the students make Lichtenstein-inpired self portraits. I took a photograph of each student, and then had them find the lines in their face using a light table. Once they had done that they filled in their skin with dots and all other parts of their bodies with solid color. This was fun and fast, and gave us great results.
