Right around Thanksgiving-time the fifth grade classes started looking at the life and work of the artist Wayne Thiebaud. Then they picked their favorite food to paint in his style. Thiebaud often repeats foods over and over again with washed out backgrounds, subtle colors and lots of texture in his paint. I taught them how to draw basic shapes, taught them how to use gel medium to build up their paints, let them go, and then brought them back to learn how to put shadows into their paintings. I REALLY love what they did. I would have EVERY single one hanging in my house! There will be more images to come, as the kids are slowly finishing up-but, here are the first finished ones, and a few details of some to come!
