I saw this project on the internet and LOVED it. It is simple, effective, and kids love it too. For this project Each student traces their hand and then makes straight lines heading toward their hand that then curve over their palms and fingers. Before we started the project I asked all of the students to put one hand on the table and then drag their other pointy finger across the table and then up on to their hand. I asked them how it felt and they said that their finger had to curve up onto their hand, and I told them that you can do that with lines to create the illusion of the third dimension. We did a little bit of cheating at the end and added slight shadows. Here are our results. Thank you to whoever posted this on the internet (I will try to find the source).
